The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week #17 for the 2021-2022 school year was presented to Po-Hi sophomore EmmaLee Shields.
Superintendent Shelley Arrott said, “EmmaLee Shields is a very involved Wildcat, participating in Honor Band, Marching Band, Symphonic Orchestra Band and is a member of the Key Club. She is an excellent student, pays attention in class, and focuses on being the best she can be at whatever she does. She has been a clarinetist in our band programs since she has been in 6th grade and has committed to success as a musician. She often stays after school to practice so she can continually improve as a musician. She is helpful to the directors and is a dedicated leader in the instrumental music program. No doubt, she is a successful student who exhibits the characteristics of the Wildcat Way in her studies and extra-curricular activities. However, with EmmaLee it goes WAY beyond that!”
“Every teacher I talked to about EmmaLee had two common things to say about EmmaLee. The first thing they said is she goes above and beyond to help her classmates understand the material. She is the type of student that cares not only about her own success, but the success of her fellow Wildcats. The next common characteristic her teachers named was her positive attitude. Her teachers agree she is always in a good mood, is always smiling, and is fun and a pleasure to have in class. Her geometry teacher, Mrs. Parent, said EmmaLee is a ‘lift your spirits’ kind of person, and that once EmmaLee enters the classroom, her good spirits and happy go lucky attitude instantly puts everyone in a great mood!”
“EmmaLee, I am proud you exhibit the characteristics of the Wildcat Way, but what I am most proud of is your positive attitude. Mrs. Parent also told when you walk in the door of your classroom you greet everyone with ‘good afternoon’ and often with a different accent. You were quick to demonstrate this to me when I mentioned it! You have this ‘never met a stranger’ personality and everyone enjoys being in the presence of someone as jubilant as you! In this day and age, people need to have fun and be nice and you certainly contribute to these human connections at PO-HI through your carefree, lighthearted, and untroubled attitude. We all have stressors in our life, but I am a firm believer that EVERYONE chooses their own attitude. It is so important we all make the most of and enjoy this thing called LIFE. Attitudes are contagious and I am so grateful you help others have a joyful life.”
“Thank you for the contributions you make to not only your school, but also to our community. I know you are active with the youth in your church and I am sure your presence is appreciated there as well. You serve so many by offering your support and help! EmmaLee, you are a great student and a great person and I am proud you are a Ponca City Wildcat! Thanks for ‘holding that line’ to make our school a happier place! I know your many positive traits will lead to great success and a happy life for you!”
