Washington Pre-K Center Holding Screening for Incoming Students

Ponca City Now-Ponca City Public Schools - July 11, 2023 6:25 am

In an effort to improve the PreK Center and ensure class assignments are in the best interest of students the Administration and Teachers at The Washington PreK Center wish to offer a pre-school screening for potential Wildcat Cubs.

A screening date for all PreK Wildcat Cubs who turn 4 on or before September 1, 2023, has been scheduled to take place on July 20 at The Washington PreK Center. This will be a come and go event where teachers will have centers set up to take students through a short battery of screeners which will provide them with information about each child’s developmental progress.

The screenings will take place at the Washington PreK Center located at 1615 N. 7th Street. Please enter the parking lot behind the school off Little Lane and enter the back door to the gym to attend the meeting. Again, this will be a come and go meeting to take place from 12:00-2:00 and again 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Teachers will be using the Speed DIAL-4. This Screener will assess three areas; Motor, Concepts, and Language. Additionally, a parent questionnaire will be provided for all parents to complete. Students will go through each screener and will be given a percentile score. This screener is used by educators nationwide.  This will allow teachers to focus or target the development of needed skills in the fall for students to be successful. It will also allow administration to make more informed decisions regarding class assignments.

During the meeting, families will have the opportunity to tour the school and staff members will be available to answer questions. Parents will receive a packet of information that will include dates and requirements for registration as well as program information.

This is the second time for the Pre-K Center to offer the screening for this year’s incoming students. If your child participated in the screening in April, there is no need to attend again.

The Washington staff asks that parents please fill out the Google Form by following the link: https://forms.gle/QzKY3EsDPan63Qwz9.

Completing this form does not register your child for school, but helps the staff plan for the screening.
