UPS announced the partial closure of the facility at 901 South Portland Avenue.

According to UPS, the change in operations will begin on Jan. 15.

On Nov. 18 a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) was posted that stated that 286 employees would be laid off.

A federal law requires employers of 100 or more employees to provide notice of a planned closing or mass layoff 60 days in advance.

UPS released the following statement regarding the layoffs:

Our employees are extremely important to us, and we are working to place as many employees as possible in other positions. We remain committed to working with them throughout this transition and providing support. This temporary, partial closure won’t impact customer service, and we have plans in place to continue servicing the Oklahoma City community.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission commented on the mass layoffs.

“We received a WARN notice and are working with the company on next steps to help those who have been impacted,” the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said.
