Union students excited about Humphrey

Students at Union Elementary School have thoroughly enjoyed this year’s book, The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney as a part of the One Book One District initiative.

They were given daily questions about each chapter. All answers were put in a basket each morning to draw for a winner. The excited winner got to take the real Humphrey to their class all day and then home for the night.

“We wrapped up the book with our literacy/techno night," Principal Dr. Trina Resler said. " All classes designed technology projects around the Humphrey theme for parents to see.”

Students had a final question for the grand prize: Humphrey forever. Students were asked what Humphrey would call them if he lived in their classroom and what lesson he could teach them.

Karlie Irwin, a 5th grader in Mrs. Smith’s class, won. Karlie’s answer was “Humphrey would call her Krazy Karlie, and he would teach her that it’s ok to get wild sometimes but other times she needs to calm down and get serious!”
