Osage County Sheriff’s Office-
On Thursday, January 13, at 4:18 am the Dick Conner Correctional Center security contacted the Sheriff’s Office about seeing a subject walking near the facility possible attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility. A short time later Security contacted the Sheriff’s Office again about a vehicle sitting in the roadway on County Road 5400 near the facility with its light off. Deputies responded to the area and located a black Ford Fusion at the location Security had advised. A Deputy attempted to make contact with the vehicle. As the Deputy pulled up to the vehicle and activated the emergency lights on his patrol car the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and a pursuit began.
Deputies pursued the vehicle for approximately 20 miles on several different county roads north and west of the prison. The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on County Road 5701 and ran off the roadway, disabling the vehicle. The Driver and passenger fled the vehicle on foot, where the Deputies lost sight of the two.
Skiatook Police Department’s K9 Officer arrived on scene and after an hour search the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by the Skiatook Police Department K9 Unit. The passenger of the vehicle was taken into custody a short time later by Deputies.
The two subjects taken into custody were identified as Aubrey Washington and Cordelle Smith both of Lawton, Oklahoma. A bag containing trafficking weight of methamphetamine and other items commonly smuggled into the prison was located. Contraband items were also located in the vehicle the two subjects were driving. Both subjects face several charges at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Hominy Police Department, Fairfax Police Department, Skiatook Police Department, Osage Nation Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the citizens that assisted in locating the two individuals, so we were able to take them into custody.
