Two Arkansas City residents arrested Feb. 17 for assault, battery

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan.  — The Arkansas City Police Department arrested two Arkansas City residents Saturday in connection with several counts of battery and related offenses.

Kayla Matoya Walker, 27, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony aggravated battery.

Walker was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. She remained in custody at the time of this release.

Roy Irvin Walker, 56, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of felony aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of misdemeanor battery.

Roy Walker was transported to and booked into the county jail in lieu of $60,750 bond through Arkansas City district court. He since has posted bond and been released from custody.

Officers were dispatched about 5 p.m. Saturday for a possible disturbance at 415 N. Sixth St.

They contacted three people, including Kayla and Roy Walker, who all reported that a physical confrontation took place previously with three other individuals, who departed prior to the officers’ arrival.

About 40 minutes later, police learned two of the people who had left prior to their arrival had sustained stab wounds during the altercation. This was reported in the 600 block of North First Street.

The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department was dispatched to the second location, where paramedics treated the victims and transported them to South Central Kansas Medical Center for further treatment.

After numerous interviews with witnesses and suspects, police determined that both a cutting instrument and a firearm were produced and used during the course of the altercation.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
