Tunnel to Towers Pays Off Family Home of Edmond Officer Killed in Crash

KOKH - July 5, 2024 6:50 am

In honor of Independence Day, Tunnel to Towers delivered 35 mortgage-free homes to families of American heroes across 19 states, and one of the families the group helped was in Oklahoma.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the family home of an Edmond Police officer who was killed in a crash in 2022.

A utility truck driver crashed into a group of vehicles that were stopped at a red light, including Sergeant CJ Nelson’s motorcycle.

“Sergeant Nelson was senselessly taken away from his young family. We are honored to give them a light at the end of this dark tunnel,” said Frank Siller, chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. “By paying off their mortgage we bring them peace of mind and a bright future.”

Nelson was on duty at the time of the crash.

Blood tests showed the driver who caused the crash had amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system.
