Tulsa area dentist wants to let people know there is another alternative for CPAP machines, if you’re having trouble finding a machine or struggling with treatment after a major recall.

Dr. Carrie Sessom said an oral device can give patients a better and more comfortable method for sleeping safely, without the use of a CPAP machine.

The top CPAP company recalled its machines after getting reports of injuries and even multiple deaths.

This alternative oral device is a custom fit appliance that repositions the tongue and opens the airway by holding the lower jaw slightly forward. Dr. Sessom said this treatment has been very successful.

“I really just want people to know that there’s an answer to their problem. That if you can’t get a CPAP machine or you can’t wear a CPAP machine and you’ve been prescribed this treatment, that we have an alternate that works really, really well. And it’s very comfortable and it’s covered by health insurance companies,” Dr. Sessom said.

Approximately one in four adults suffer from sleep apnea.

Dr. Sessom said not having control in your sleep can be a scary feeling, but her treatment is safe and effective.
