Trump takes Georgia, his second swing state as he moves closer to victory

AP - November 6, 2024 12:38 am

The Associated Press has called the battleground state of Georgia for former President Donald Trump.

That gives Trump the second of the crucial swing states that will determine the winner and 16 more electoral votes for a total of 246 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

Trump has also captured North Carolina, with the swing states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin yet to be called.

Trump flipped Georgia back after President Joe Biden took the state in 2020, which was key to the Democratic victory four years ago.

Georgia voted Republican in each presidential race from 1996 to 2016.
