Tonkawa Resident in Critical Condition After Auto Accident

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 9:17pm Saturday on North Avenue about 1/2 of a mile west of 29th Street (1/2 a mile west of Tonkawa city limits) in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Bryce Vincent Medina, 23, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Medina was transported by Air Evac to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, where he was admitted in critical condition with head and internal injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated Medina’s vehicle was eastbound on North Avenue, traveling too fast for the dry, two lane, gravel roadway, lost control, departed the roadway left, rolled approximately 1 ¾ times, with the vehicle coming to rest on its driver side. The report indicates and odor of alcohol on Medina and lists the causes of the collision as “Unsafe Speed and Alcohol.” Seatbelts were equipped, but not in use.
