Toddler drowns in Illinois River

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) – The body of a 2-year-old boy who drowned in the Illinois River has been found in Cherokee County.

Local media outlets report the boy’s body was found Sunday evening by the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the boy was swept away by the river’s current after he wandered away from family members near Tahlequah.

The boy’s name has not been released.
