Threat of Violence Against a School Circulating on Snap Chat

Ponca City Now - May 10, 2023 9:01 pm

The Ponca City Police Department has been made aware of a threat of violence against a school circulating on Snap Chat. The Snap Chat that is being shared is a photo of a phone screen, and the threat of violence against an unnamed school is on that phone, and does not mention a specific school or state.

As it has been shared, someone has added that it is in Oklahoma. The same Snap Chat threat has circulated, and been claimed to apply to at least two other states.

The Ponca City Police Department and the Ponca City Public Schools are both aware, and are in communication about the issue. Out of an abundance of caution we will have officers both uniformed and plain clothes patrolling the schools.

We understand any threat can create feelings of anxiety for our families, students, staff, and community. Please know that our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. We take any and all reports of potential threats seriously. Thank you to the citizens who reported these posts to district staff.
