The Community Health Foundation of Kay County is Hosting Free Community Education Event With Speaker Laura Stack

The Community Health Foundation of Kay County is hosting a free community event with speaker Laura Stack at Pioneer Technology Center in the Conference Center.

Laura’s 19 year old son died by suicide in 2019 after using marijuana and having a psychotic episode. Laura founded an organization called Johnny’s Ambassadors to help educate parents and students about the dangers of marijuana use in teens.

In the latest data from Kay County, 45% of High School Seniors had used marijuana in their lifetime and almost 20% of High School Seniors had reported using marijuana in the last 30 days. THC affects the adolescent developing brain and causes a loss of 6 to 8 IQ points, an increased risk of not graduating high school, an increase in impulsiveness and paranoia, and a decrease in judgment, memory, and reaction time.

Think you know all there is about marijuana…here are some facts you may not know:

*Smoking one joint today is like smoking 15 joints in the 1980’s
*Vaping marijuana today for just one second is like smoking one “old” joint
*A serving size of a marijuana gummy can be as small as a gummy bear’s ear.
*1 marijuana dab today equals 50 joints from the Woodstock era.
To learn more about marijuana and how to talk to your kids about it (they likely know more than you do if they’re in high school), come to the free parent education night on Monday, November 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Pioneer Technology Center to hear Laura Stack. She is a nationally recognized speaker and founder of Johnny’s Ambassadors, a 501c3 organization with the mission to protect other families from going through what her own did.
There is no cost to attend though registration is encouraged.
