Texas toddler drowns in Choctaw County pond

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a 2-year-old boy from Whitesboro, Texas, drowned early Friday morning in a Choctaw County pond.

The boy drowned about 3:30 a.m. Friday on county road Bee Boulevard, two miles north of Sawyer in Choctaw County. His body was recovered about 4 a.m.

The Patrol reports the mother of the boy checked on him at about 2:30 a.m. and he was asleep in bed.  She again checked on victim at  approximately 3 a.m.  and he was missing.

The toddler walked about 400 feet to a neighbor’s pond, the Patrol reported. He was found 25 feet from shore in 3 ½ feet of water.

He was transported to Choctaw Memorial Hospital in Hugo, Oklahoma. The State Medical Investigator was notified.
