Stuff the Bus! — Chamber Chat

Ponca City Now - August 3, 2015 8:42 am

Stuff the Bus is a Chamber project that gathers school supplies benefitting our school children during the entire school year.

Many of our children, for a variety of reasons, don’t have the school supplies they need to be successful. When children don’t have the school supplies they need they tend to fall behind. With all the pressure put on our children with testing, not having needed school supplies just adds to their pressure. We need our students to be successful.

Before the Chamber started the Stuff the Bus with school supplies, many of our teachers were purchasing the supplies for their students. As a community, we all need to help our children so they can grow up into productive citizens.

Starting Friday a school bus will be located in front of Southwest Business Products from 10 to noon and then it will be in front of Merrifield Office Supply from noon to 2 p.m. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the bus will be in front of Walmart and then it will move to Staples from 1 to 3 p.m.

We are asking the public to purchase school supplies and then bring them to the bus. All school supplies collected are kept at the Board of Education office. When a teacher sees the student does not have a needed school supply they let their principal know and then the principal lets the Administration know. The needed school supply is delivered to the classroom the next day.

If you would like to bring your donated school supplies to the Chamber Office we will accept them and get them to the bus. Thanks so much in advance for supporting the children of Ponca City.
