It’s called spread the word to end the word.

That’s the name of the campaign one high school class have started.

They are asking Poncans to pledge to stop using the word retarded.

If you would like to pledge they invite you to their pledge walk tomorrow.

They will be walking the Hutchins Trail at 8 a.m.

It’s late start Wednesday for the high school so students won’t have to miss class to participate.

Becca Primeaux, DECA student said a teacher’s situation inspired them.

“Our teacher just last year had a baby with Down Syndrome and we found this campaign online we thought it was cool," Primeaux said. "We know how it affects her and her family, and how it makes them feel.”

And the campaign doesn’t stop with the walk.

Morgan Hunter, another DECA student said they will start collecting donations.

“We are going to have a month long campaign," Hunter said. "The 23rd that will start our campaign.”

Donation boxes will be set up at different businesses.

To participate in the walk tomorrow meet on the front lawn of the high school for a rally followed by the walk.
