Ponca City Now - July 24, 2024 6:09 am

Three students from Ponca City High School recently returned from an unforgettable experience at the University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp. Held in Fayetteville, Arkansas from July 14-19, 2024, the camp brought together young musicians from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas to hone their skills and share their passion for music.
The students, Kaitlyn Scanlon, Madaline Shear, and Jackson Sheets, participated in rehearsals, sectionals, guest lectures, and performances led by music educators and performers. Kaitlyn and Jackson performed with the symphony orchestra, under the direction of retired maestro Dan Larson. This was his 39th year conducting the symphony orchestra at camp. Madaline performed with the Concert Band. PCPS orchestra director Katie Hauge led sectionals and taught private lessons at the camp. This was her 10th year to work at this camp.
The camp’s finale was a spectacular concert attended by family, friends, and community members, where the students demonstrated the progress they made throughout the camp. The performances received standing ovations and rave reviews from attendees.
