Governor Kevin Stitt is calling for a special session on tax fairness, tax cuts for all Oklahomans and transparency in the budget process.

Stitt said he is calling on the legislature to put Oklahoma on a path toward zero income tax.

Stitt said the process of bringing the state income tax to zero will slow the growth of the government.

Travis Roach, the economics department chair at the University of Central Oklahoma says it will not only low the government but it will defund it.

“It’s a terrible idea,” said Roach. “It would defund our government and all the core services the government is supposed to provide.”

Roach says bringing the state income tax to zero would affect the businesses’ ability to function and operate.
