Stillwater comic convention 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Stillwater Public Library

STILLWATER, Oklahoma – The Stillwater Public Library’s annual comic convention, LexiCon, takes places Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry is free and events will be held at the library, Prairie Arts Center and Stillwater Community Center.

Community Center Highlights

• Almost 50 merchants and artists who with original artwork and popular merchandise for sale
• Free photo ops with an array of Star Wars characters
• Remote controlled R2 unit
• Tabletop gaming
• Food trucks
• Anime screenings

Prairie Arts Center Highlights

• Hourly Nintendo character drawing lessons
• Crafts (fee)
• LexiCon T-shirt screenprinting . Adult shirts are $12 and youth shirts are $10.

Stillwater Public Library Highlights

• Video gaming
• Super Smash Bros. tournament (one free, one fee tournament)
• 3:30 p.m. cosplay contests
• Incredible storytime and crafts
• Foam weapon sparring in the courtyard (fee)
• 14 panels on pop culture topics like exciting, upcoming game releases, cosplay, Marvel characters and more
• Special guest Dr. Kerry Joels, who worked for NASA, served on the White House Space Exploration Initiative and was the script advisor on the James Bond “Moonraker” film, will speak at 12:30 p.m. in the library on how Sci Fi films/shows and technology influence each other.
• At 10:30 a.m., Jeff Province, author of multiple “Haunted Oklahoma” books, will present “Paranormal Oklahoma” with haunted folklore and ghost stories specific to the state.

Attendees may enter a grand prize drawing at each of the three locations. One attendee will win a Tulsa Wizard World Comic Con ticket package worth $320.

Ninth and Tenth streets between Duck and Duncan will be closed from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. for pedestrian safety. In addition, the Stillwater Medical Center will have a tent at Duck and Tenth to provide free water and to watch for heat-related illness among the LexiCon attendees.
