OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The secretary of the state Election Board says candidate filing for a special election in state Senate District 11 is set to begin.

Filing begins Monday for the election to fill the unexpired term of Democratic former state Sen. Jabar Shumate of Tulsa. He resigned earlier this month to become state director of The American Federation for Children.

The district includes parts of Tulsa and Osage Counties. A special primary election is scheduled on April 7, with a special general election on June 9. If the primary is not needed, the general election will be on April 7.

Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax says candidates may file for the seat from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the State Election Board’s office at the State Capitol.
