Sooners Stand Pat in AP Poll

The Associated Press logo. The preseason top-25 was released Monday morning.

A huge offensive output for the Oklahoma football team against former Sooner backup quarterback Austin Kendall and West Virginia meant the Sooners stayed right where they were last week in the Associated Press poll.

OU stays at No. 5, behind a pair of dominant SEC squads in Alabama and LSU, Ohio State and last year’s champion Clemson.

The next couple of weeks feature some huge matchups that could determine if the Sooners will be able to sneak inside the top-4 for the initial College Football Playoff rankings:

Oct. 26: No. 13 Wisconsin at No. 3 Ohio State, No. 9 Auburn at No. 2 LSU

Nov. 9: No. 2 LSU at No. 1 Alabama

If OU can hold serve, they will have a decent shot at sliding into the top-4 if one of the above teams slips up.
