Today in the Kay County Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Steve Kelley presented to the county commissioners a “Declaration of Intent” establishing Kay County, Oklahoma a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County”.

“As the Sheriff of Kay County, I signed the letter of intent and the county commissioners affirmed theire intent to support this declaration,” Kelley said.

“As the Sheriff of Kay County, I swore an oath to protect and support the Oklahoma and United States Constitutions.  There is no other right more sacred or vital in protecting the freedoms and liberty of American citizens than ensuring the protections afforded under the Second Amendment,” Kelley said.

“As the Sheriff of Kay County, I will defend the law-abiding citizens and their right to bear arms,” he said.  “I believe that this country is a safer place to live when the law-abiding citizens have the right to bear arms and protect themselves, their families and fellow citizens. The right to bear arms has been proven time and time again to save lives.  Those lives were saved by real heroes.”
