Ryan Shelton has been named the new principal at East Middle School, pending approval from the board of education. Shelton has served as an assistant high school principal at Ponca City High School since 2020.

Ryan received his bachelor’s degree in English from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1998. He received his master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2020.

He began his teaching career in 1999 as a high school English teacher and football and track coach at the Fort Larned School District in Kansas. He was a Po-Hi English teacher from 2001-2020.

He was named Po-Hi Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020 and Ponca City District Teacher of the Year in 2010-2011.

“I am excited for the opportunity to work with the great staff at East Middle School so that we can serve our students and prepare them for the rigors of high school,” said Shelton.

“We had several quality applicants we interviewed for East Middle School and we felt Ryan stood out for his dedication to fostering excellence in education. In addition, he has a passion for empowering young minds,” said Adam Leaming, PCPS Superintendent. “Ryan will fill a pivotal role in our district and I’m confident that East Middle School will thrive as a beacon of academic achievement and community engagement under his leadership.”
