A self-proclaimed serial killer has been formally sentenced to death in Oklahoma.
William Reece was convicted of killing Tiffany Johnston. He reportedly told investigators he also killed three other people in Texas.
Johnston was last seen in July 1997 at a Bethany carwash. Her body was found in a field and was partially clothed.
After Oklahoma County prosecutors filed charges against him in 2015, Reece started confessing in an attempt to make a deal.
In a series of 2016 interviews with Texas Rangers, he gave vivid descriptions of the killings in Oklahoma and Texas.
Reece also helped lead investigators to the bodies. He was a bulldozer operator at the time of the killings and put his skill to morbid use along a stretch of Texas Interstate 45.
The 50-mile desolate area between Houston and Galveston became known as the ‘Texas Killing Fields’ after a number of women mysteriously vanished or were found buried there throughout the years.
An Oklahoma County judge formally sentenced Reece on Thursday to the maximum penalty.
“Justice will not be delayed any longer. I sentence you to death,” the judge told Reece in the courtroom.
A jury handed down the death penalty for Reece on June 2.
