SCAM ALERT

Ponca City Now - November 21, 2024 11:28 am

Kay County Sheriffs Office-
We have received an influx of calls regarding someone who has duplicated KSO’s phone number and is claiming to be a Deputy or Sergeant from our agency. They are telling people that they have defaulted on either a “government loan” or a “PPP loan”, missed a payment, and now have a warrant issued for arrest. They are requesting payment on the warrant and threatening to come arrest the people they are calling if a payment is not received.
Under no circumstances will our agency, or any other agency, contact you to try and collect a payment on a warrant.
Some things to look out for in scam calls
1. Scare tactics – pay me or we’ll come to your house arrest you
2. Anger – the caller will become hostile if challenged or keep you from hanging up the phone and hold you “hostage” (you ARE free to hang up).
3. Payment via gift cards
If you feel uncomfortable and think your phone call may be a scam, hang up and call your local Law Enforcement Agency, or contact KSO.
Stay safe!
