Samantha Johnston Earns Nevona Kegans’ Scholarship

Samantha Johnston, a Northern Oklahoma College Athletic Training student from Fairfax, Oklahoma, is the recipient of the Nevona Kegans Scholarship.

The Nevona Kegans scholarship is presented annually to an Athletic Training student attending the NOC Tonkawa Campus.

Kegans, a 1961 alumna of Northern Oklahoma Junior College; was a member of the Mavettes, the Women’s Basketball Team and served as dorm proctor in Easterling Hall. Nevona returned to her alma mater in 1963 where she served in many capacities within the athletic and student affairs department. She was instrumental in establishing the athletic training program at Northern and retired as dean of women and HPER division chair after serving the institution for 40 years. Nevona’s commitment to Northern and continued support will provide students a chance to pursue their higher educational goals at Northern Oklahoma College.

Johnston is the 7th recipient of this award and is receiving a $500.00 scholarship. Joining Johnston on the court this evening are her parents Hank and Shana Johnston.

Nevona Kegans Bossert presented the scholarship award assisted by Diana Watkins, Interim President; Sheri Snyder, Vice President for Development and Community Relations; Athletic Trainer Summer McClure and HPER Division Chair Suzi Brown.

Northern Oklahoma College, the state’s first public two-year community college, is a multi-campus, land-grant institution that provides high quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities and services.
