Roads Slick And Hazardous In Ponca City
Ponca City Now - January 5, 2014 9:18 am
An overnight snow storm left a good amount of snowfall on the Ponca City area. City road crews were out in force this morning, like this truck blading Union street. Here is the latest on road conditions in Oklahoma from ODOT.
Road Conditions Update 1-6-14 – 5 a.m.
Crews are continuing to plow and treat highways and interstates in north-central and northeastern Oklahoma. The sun and wind helped clear many highways in northwest Oklahoma but some areas in the north-central and northeast experienced drifting snow overnight and are still considered slick in spots, I-40 is clear.
Crews in the Tulsa metro area urge caution as some refreezing has taken place over night. The Oklahoma City metro is fairly clear but drivers are also reminded to watch for black ice and use caution on bridges and overpasses this morning.
During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists need to:
· Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
· Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
· Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
