US-77 resurfacing project north of Newkirk begins Monday

Work will begin Monday for a widening and resurfacing project on northbound and southbound US-77 between Newkirk and E. Home Rd. in northern Kay County. Motorists will notice workers in the right-of-way of US-77 between E. Home Rd. and E. Fork Rd. for initial work zone set up including building construction access for property owners within the work area.

Starting in mid-May, northbound and southbound US-77 will be narrowed to one lane with temporary traffic signals in half-mile segments between E. Home Rd. and E. Fork Rd. Motorists can expect delays and congestion in the area through spring 2021 while the highway is realigned  to the west and widened. As the work progresses south toward Newkirk, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures for resurfacing work and widening to add shoulders.

The $9.3 million project was awarded in February to Evans & Associates Construction Co. Inc. of Ponca City and is expected to take nearly a year to complete.
