Enid Police arrested a sex offender who was found sleeping inside a school Friday, October 20, according to Enid police.

Police say Michael Steele, 44, was located after St. Joseph’s Catholic school contacted them to report the incident.

Steele was found by a student sleeping under a covered piano, according to police, and the student alerted a janitor. After speaking to the janitor, Steele ran into a bathroom, police say.

Steele entered the school through an unlocked door.

Steele left the school after the principal spoke to him, police say. Steele claimed people were after him. Police say he was escorted to his vehicle and left the school without issue.

The principal learned the next day that Steele was a registered sex offender and contacted police. Police investigated the incident and sent an alert to police to be on the lookout for Steele, including a mugshot and picture of his vehicle.

Steele was convicted back in 2010 for rape, molestation, and forcible oral sodomy to a child.

Steele was arrested on Monday, October 23.
