Prosecutor: Ex-tribal chief pleads guilty to bribery charge

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) – A former principal chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation has pleaded guilty to bribery related to work for the Wetumka-based Alabama-Quassarte Tribal Town.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Doug Horn says that George Tiger pleaded guilty on Friday in federal court in Muskogee to the charge filed on August 14th.
Tiger’s attorney didn’t immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Prosecutors say that Tiger solicited and accepted a bribe between 2017 and 2019 concerning Alabama-Quassarte Tribal Town transactions of at least $5,000.
Tiger is currently listed as a candidate for Muscogee (Creek) Nation principal chief, a position he held from 2011 to 2015. The nation has said that Tiger didn’t represent the tribe at the time prosecutors say the bribery took place and that no one convicted of a felony is eligible to serve as principal chief.
