The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a personal injury collision occurred at about 10:38 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Coleman Road and North Pecan Road, about 1 mile north of Ponca City, in Kay County.
The patrol said the accident involved a 2015 blue Honda Fit driven by Cheryl Fletcher, 77, of Ponca City. Fletcher was transported by Ponca City EMS to Alliance Health and then transported to St. Francis in Tulsa by Air Evac, where she was admitted in critical condition with leg and trunk internal injuries.
The second vehicle involved was a 2009 silver GMC Sierra driven by Brian Tilley, 51, of Ponca City. Tilley was treated on scene by Ponca City EMS and released.
The Highway Patrol’s report stated that Fletcher’s vehicle was northbound on Pecan Road and stopped at the northbound stop sign. Tilley’s vehicle was going eastbound on Coleman Road. Fletcher’s vehicle failed to yield at the stop sign and started into the intersection in front of Tilley’s vehicle. Tilley’s vehicle attempted to avoid collision by swerving to the left. Fletcher’s vehicle and Tilley’s vehicle impacted at the intersection. Fletcher’s vehicle was pushed off the road to the right, traveling through a fence and coming to rest in a field. Tilley’s vehicle came to rest in the westbound lane of Coleman Road. Fletcher was pinned for approximately 45 minutes and was extricated by Ponca City Fire using Hurst tools. Seatbelts were equipped and in use by all parties. Airbags were equipped and deployed in both vehicles. The condition of both drivers was apparently normal. The report attributes the cause of the collision to Fletcher’s failure to yield to a stop sign.
Investigated by Trooper Vaughn #832 of Troop K. Assisted by the Kay County Sheriff’s Office, The Ponca City Fire Department, and Ponca City EMS.
