Ponca City schools participate in Got Books program

Ponca City Now - May 13, 2014 10:31 am

Ponca City Public School kindergarten through second grade students are participating in the Got Books program.

The Got Books program allows students to chose 10 books to take home and read during the summer.

The Ponca City School District budget and each elementary site budget shares the cost of this program each year.

Research proves that children who don’t have access to books will lost up to two months of reading achievement during the summer.

Children who read four to five more books can hold their own in terms of school-year achievement.

Providing children with books may be the most critical thing a school can do.
