Ponca City School’s Get Parents Involved

Ponca City Now - October 22, 2013 8:59 am

Ponca City school board is inviting all parents to come be a part of a political movement.

The school board has invited Melissa Abdo to speak to parents about Parent Legislative Action Committees.

Abdo founded a PLAC in Jenks and is very active in Tulsa County.

School superintendent, David Pennington said a PLAC is a grassroots organization.

The groups goal is to raise awareness about legislative issues impacting Oklahoma.

“My hope is that this organization, if we have one, in Ponca City will be one that will interact with legislatures to talk about funding," Pennington said. "T hen there are other issues that are important for parents. The whole issue of testing, how much do we test kids, what do we use test results for.”

Pennington said he knows there is a core group of parents who are interested.

Tonight they will decide if they want to form a PLAC in Ponca City.

If they do, they will elect officers and set dates for future meetings.

This meeting will be held at the senior high school auditorium at 6:30.
