Ponca City Pursuit Ends With Car Crashing Into Field, Driver Arrested

A pursuit in Ponca City ends with a car crashing through a fence into a field Tuesday night.

Ponca City Police notified the Kay County Sheriff’s Office of a police pursuit that was going northbound on Oak Street from Broadway Avenue and was reaching speeds of 75 mph.

The pursuit involved a red Mustang with an obstructed tag and farm equipment hanging out of the trunk.

Officials said just as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) trooper took over the pursuit, the vehicle crashed through a barbed wire fence on W Street north of Brake Road.

Police reported the OHP unit was smoking and there was a small grass fire near the scene.

Carey James Buxton, 54, was arrested and booked into the county jail on complaints of:

  • Eluding police
  • Possession of a CDS
  • Failure to wear a seatbelt
  • Driving with a suspended license
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • No insurance
  • Possession of paraphernalia
