Ponca City Public Schools offer “Healing After Suicide” training

The Ponca City School district is offering “Healing After Suicide in a School Community: Helping Parents Help Their Kids” training.

Based on recommendations from an Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health Suicide Prevention expert, the district has been working to offer healing and support for district staff, parents, and students. All staff members were trained first, on the Sept. 16 professional development day.

The next steps are to offer training to parents in November, and student training will be offered in classroom settings in January.

School district therapist Kirk Hollis will present training designed for parents, guardians, or other adults at these times and locations:

  • Monday, Nov. 18 6 p.m., Po-Hi/Howell Auditorium
  • Tuesday, Nov. 19 6 p.m., East Middle School Auditorium
  • Thursday, Nov. 21 6 p.m., West Middle School Auditorium
