A Ponca City man was transported by Air Evac to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, after a commercial vehicle collision at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday on  U.S. 77 and Brake Road, two miles south of Newkirk.

A 2015 Mack truck driven by Eugene Burnham, 71, of Pond Creek was northbound on U.S. 77 in the outside lane, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. A 1997 Ford truck driven by Milburn Mehojah, 51, of Ponca City was northbound behind the Mack truck, when it changed lanes to the inside lane and turned east onto Brake Road. The Ford truck struck the right side of  the trailer as the Mack truck continued eastbound on Brake Road, dragging the Ford truck about 200 feet past the point of impact.

Mehojah was pinned for about 25 minutes before being freed by the Newkirk and Kildare Fire Departments. He was admitted in stable condition in the Wichita hospital with internal trunk, arm and leg injuries.

Burnham was not injured, according to the Highway Patrol report. The report said the cause of the accident was an improper right turn by Burnham’s vehicle.
