Ponca City Now - November 14, 2013 6:18 am

One teacher at Liberty Elementary is stepping out from behind the podium and into the head honcho chair.

Jill Henderson has been teaching special education at Liberty, but will become principal Jan. 5.

Dr. David Pennington, school superintendent said she was selected among three other candidates.

“Out of the candidates we interviewed we felt like she was the best fit for Liberty, and the fact that she has previous administrative experience, we just felt like that just made her the best fit for the position,” Pennignton said.

Henderson has her bachelors degree in Elementary Education and her masters in Special Education, School Counseling and Bilingual Education.

She served as principal at Ripley Public Schools and has had adminstrative experience at multiple schools.

The former principal resigned at the begining of the school year for personal reasons.

So, Liberty has had an interim principal since September.
