Police News Release: Gunshots Fired Last Night

Ponca City Now - October 28, 2013 11:24 am

A call reporting gunshots in the alley between 400 South Lake and South Palm yesterday at approximately 10:42am led to a pair of arrests for Police.

Two subjects were seen running into 405 South Lake with a gun. Upon officers arrival, subjects slammed the door and refused to answer the door. Officers gathering past history for the occupants of that residence determined that 25 year old Matthew Sherwin Overland resided there and was wanted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The tactical team was activated and a search warrant was obtained prior to officers entering the residence. Upon entry officers contacted Overland and 29 year old Jamison Eric Smith, who had an outstanding Kay County Warrant. Both were taken into custody without incident. Officers completed their work at the scene just before 7pm.

Smith was booked into the Ponca City jail with a felony charge of being in Possession of a Firearm after a former conviction. Overland was booked into jail under a felony count of discharging a firearm along with the BIA hold.

Both subjects will be transported to KSO late today or tomorrow and formal charges will take place at a later date.
