Police issue warning about Snapchat threats

Team Radio Marketing Group - December 15, 2017 9:11 am

Yesterday afternoon the Ponca City Police Department was made aware of a situation where a young person’s Snapchat account had been compromised. The person who gained access to the account began using it to contact the victim’s friends and followers, sending threats in an attempt to extort sexually oriented pictures and videos.

Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Investigators and School Resource Officers are working with multiple victims, service providers, and the schools to find any other victims to try to identify the perpetrator.

The Ponca City Police Department wants to strongly caution all who use social media, and in this case specifically Snapchat, to call Police immediately if someone threatens or tries to extort anything from you on social media.

Do not respond and send any type of personal information or photos/videos. If you do, the perpetrator will only  use it to further his/her crime.

If you have already been the victim of this type of crime, please report it to the proper authorities immediately.
