Police in Ponca City busy overnight

At approximately 9:40 Thursday evening a male passerby was told by a female that someone had been shot, he alerted emergency responders. Police responded to the boarding house at 802 South Second and found two men lying in the back yard, one beaten and the other had been shot.

Vinson Alan Kendrick, 35, was transported to the Ponca City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police have retrieved the small caliber rifle and casings.

Mitchell Jay Griffith, 57, was also transported to the Ponca City Medical Center and was treated and released.

Alcohol was involved in the altercation between Kendrick and Griffith. The investigation is continuing.

At approximately 10:08pm the Ponca City Medical Center alerted the Communications Center that they were treating a 49 year old male that had sustained stab wounds. He was intoxicated and uncooperative with the Police Officers.

An armed robbery was reported at approximately 2:06 am from the Valero Convenience Store located at the corner of Hartford and Union. The clerk told Police that a black male, approximately 6 feet tall with a medium build entered the store. He had on a mask, gloves and a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head. The robber pointed a black colored handgun at the clerk and demanded money. He left the store and parking area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Just before 5am this morning, Police were called by a clerk at the same Valero where the robbery had occurred earlier, reporting that a passerby had alerted them of a break in to the liquor store located just north of the convenience store. Officers arrived to find the front glass Oscar and Essie’s, located at 1900 North Union, broken out allowing entry to the business.

According to PCPD Police logs, officers responded to several crime scenes overnight. There was an armed robbery in the south part of Ponca City Thursday afternoon. Late Thursday evening, PCPD recieved a call about a person shot near 2nd and Cherry. And overnight, Ponca City Medical Center reported to PCPD a stab wound on a patient in the emergency room.
