The Ponca City Police Department is kicking off the local portion of the nationwide campaign for Click it or Ticket today.

The safety belt usage campaign will take place through June 4. The Memorial Day holiday traditionally gets people in the summertime mode and some families take a road trip.

“Buckle up each and every time you get into a vehicle as a driver or passenger. It is just that simple” says Patrol Division Captain Randy Tyner. “In addition to saturation patrols that are planned during this campaign, all of our officers will looking for drivers and passengers that are not restrained properly, as well as child restraint violations.

“Our officers have seen first-hand the devastation that results from vehicle occupants that were involved in crashes that didn’t use safety belts,” Tyner said.

Funding for these operations is provided through a competitive grant process through the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office and through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
