Phillips 66 Refineries Notch Top Safety Honors from AFPM

HOUSTON, TX – April 30, 2021 – Six Phillips 66 sites in the U.S. have captured honors for outstanding safety performance in 2020 from the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, with three earning the organization’s top award.

The Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex in Louisiana, Ponca City Refinery in Oklahoma and San Francisco Refinery-Santa Maria plant in California notched Distinguished Safety Awards, presented by AFPM annually to member companies and operators displaying exemplary safety performance.

The Borger Refinery in the Texas Panhandle picked up an Elite Gold Award, while the Billings Refinery in Montana and the San Francisco Refinery-Rodeo plant earned Elite Silver honors.

“This recognition is the result of our Phillips 66 safety culture and significant efforts to go above and beyond to keep our people, communities and sites safe,” said David Erfert, Phillips 66 Senior Vice President of Health, Safety and Environment, and Projects. “Congratulations to our six AFPM safety award winners and respective site employees and contractors for their hard work.”

Strong showing for Phillips 66

Distinguished Safety Award winners represent the very best of safety performance in the industry. AFPM recognizes other strong performers with Elite Gold and Elite Silver honors.

Lake Charles, Ponca City and San Francisco-Santa Maria accounted for half of all AFPM Distinguished Safety Award honorees for 2020. For Lake Charles and Santa Maria, it marked the second straight year earning the industry’s top safety award. Ponca City won it previously in 2018.

Chevron Phillips Chemical, a joint venture between Phillips 66 and Chevron, won three Elite Silver awards for three Texas sites, in Conroe, Orange and Port Arthur.

AFPM standards exceed requirements

AFPM is a leading trade association for U.S. refiners and chemical manufacturers. The awards are part of a program developed by the AFPM Safety and Health Committee to promote safe operations in the refining and petrochemical industries.
