The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 5:59 p.m. Wednesday on State Highway 99 at the intersection of 9th Street, about 5 miles east and 1 mile south of Cushing, OK in Payne County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 17 year old female whose name has been withheld, of Cushing, OK. She was transported by Cushing Ambulance to Saint Francis hospital in Tulsa, OK, where she was admitted in critical but stable condition for whole body injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle, a second 17 year old female, also of Cushing, OK was transported by Samaritan EMS to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK, where she was admitted in stable condition for head, trunk internal, and leg injuries.

The second vehicle involved was a 1997 Ford F350 pickup driven by Sheri L. Claytor (SIC), 58, of Cushing, OK. Claytor was transported by Cushing EMS to Cushing Regional Hospital, where she was later diverted to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. She was admitted at Saint Francis in stable condition for head and trunk internal injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on 9th street, Claytor’s vehicle was traveling southbound on State Highway 99. After stopping at the stop sign the first vehicle failed to yield to Claytor, pulling out in front of Claytor’s vehicle. Claytor’s vehicle struck the first vehicle broadside at the driver side door causing the first vehicle to depart the roadway to the right; Claytor’s vehicle departed the roadway to the left. All parties had to be extricated by use of the Hurst tools used by the Cushing Fire Department. Seatbelts were equipped and in use by all parties. The condition of both drivers was apparently normal and the cause of the collision is attributed to failing to yield at a Stop Sign.

Investigated by Trooper Ryan Long #541 of the Payne county detachment of Troop K, assisted by Trooper Anthony Harper #239, Payne County Sheriff’s office, Cushing Fire and EMS, and Samaritan EMS.

This report is based upon the trooper’s investigation of this collision. It may contain the opinion of the trooper.
