PCPD checkpoints sometime this week

Ponca City Now - April 4, 2014 6:56 am

The Ponca City Police Department will be conducting a traffic safety checkpoint sometime this week.

Continuing their partnership with the Oklahoma Highway Safety office, the patrol division will set up an area for drivers to safely pull off of the street.

“We will be checking for current driver’s license, current insurance verification, seat belt compliance and current license tag registration,” said Patrol Division, Captain Earl Watkins.

“Child safety seat compliance is another component we will be checking for” Watkins said.

According to state law (O.S. 47 11-1112) it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that all children twelve years of age and younger are properly restrained as required by law.

Regardless of a child’s seating position in a vehicle, children under six years of age shall be protected in a properly installed restraint system and children six through twelve years of age must be protected by use of either a properly installed child passenger restraint system or a safety belt.

For more information on Oklahoma’s child restraint laws go to: here or use the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office website as a reference for a variety of safe driving topics.
