OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A state panel charged with overseeing artwork at the Oklahoma Capitol is expected to discuss the court-ordered removal of a Ten Commandments monument from the statehouse grounds.
The Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission is scheduled to hold a special meeting Tuesday at the Capitol.
The group plans to enter into a closed-door session to discuss the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s ruling that the granite monument must be removed. The court determined the monument’s display violates a state constitutional provision that prohibits the use of public property to support a religious message.
The commission is expected to authorize the Office of Management and Enterprise Services to remove the monument from a landing on the north side of the building.
