OU softball staff wins regional award

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – The University of Oklahoma softball coaching staff has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

The association announced the award Wednesday.

With head coach Patty Gasso, associate head coach Melyssa Lombardi, assistant coach Tripp MacKay and volunteer assistant Nicole Bishop, OU finished 2015 with a 49-9 record and the No. 9 ranking in the final NFCA poll.

Oklahoma has now won the regional Staff of the Year for four straight seasons and nine times overall.
