The University of Oklahoma expects to have renovations complete on part of its football stadium by the 2016 season.

The university’s Board of Regents approved the design and development elements of the first part of the project on Tuesday. The budget for the planned enclosure of the south end zone and construction of luxury boxes and club seats is expected to cost $160 million.

University president David Boren says the plan’s modest ambitions reflect the uncertainty of economic conditions caused by low oil and gas prices. He said funding will come solely from private gifts and athletic revenues, and neither state-appropriated funds nor tuition will be used.
