OSBI TAKING OVER MURDER-SUICIDE INVESTIGATION IN VERDIGRIS

News 6 - April 10, 2023 9:08 am

Verdigris Police Department confirm two people are dead and three are injured after a domestic dispute.

Police say they received a call early Sunday morning for what they are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Police chief Jack Shackelford says this is going to be hard for the community to take.

Shackelford says around 3:30 a.m., dispatch received a call for a well-being check at a home in North Verdigris. He says once his officers made it to the scene, they were unable to get into the home.

“People were yelling at him through the window that there had been some shots fired. He banged on the door, and he could hear a male’s voice on the inside of the house saying, ‘you’re going to have to kick the door down, I’ve been shot.’ Shackelford said.

Police say one victim is male and the other is female. Investigators believe they were related.

There were kids in the home who have been placed in a family members’ care.

The owner of the home was taken by helicopter to the hospital.

“It’s real peaceful and quiet,” Shackelford said.

Police say this is the first homicide here in about five years.

“We never have any issues up here, so I’m sure it’s going to take some time for it to soak in

people to absorb it,” Shackelford said.

Verdigris Police say OSBI will be handling the rest of the investigation.
