OSBI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Ponca City

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved-shooting in Ponca City. Based on the initial investigation, this is what is known at this time:

  • At 7:15 p.m. Monday night, a clerk at a liquor store at 2005 N. 14th Street in Ponca City called police to report a theft.
  • An unidentified white male entered the store, stole some alcohol and left on foot.
  • Officers responded and pursued the man about a mile from the liquor store.
  • The man is seen with a gun in the middle of the street.
  • He encounters a female driving her car down the same street.
  • He forces the woman out and car jacks the vehicle.
  • Officers pursue the man, who returns to the strip mall where the original theft took place.
  • He drove the vehicle through the grassy field behind the strip mall and abandoned the vehicle near some woods, taking off on foot again.
  • Officers pursued the man into the woods.
  • The man turned around and appeared to have a gun.
  • Officers fired at the man, who was killed at the scene.
  • The Medical Examiner transported him to their office to determine his identity.
  • A weapon was recovered during the initial investigation by the OSBI.

The investigation is ongoing. There is no additional information to be released at this time.
