OSBI corrects information about investigation

Numerous recent media reports say OSBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting by a Tulsa County reserve deputy. That is not accurate. Below is the statement released by OSBI when agents opened the investigation into the sheriff’s office.

June 1, 2015 — Last month, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office requested OSBI investigative assistance into allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department.

Days later, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler recused his office as prosecuting authority. The Oklahoma Attorney General then appointed Okmulgee County District Attorney O.R. Barris as prosecutor in this case.

Barris formally requested OSBI investigative assistance into the allegations.

Friday (5/29/2015), OSBI opened an investigation into the allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. When the investigation is completed, the Bureau will provide D.A. Barris a thorough, written report.

D.A. Barris will determine if any violations of state laws occurred within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.
